Guanyin and the Thousand Arms
One Buddhist legend presents Guan Yin as vowing to never rest until she had freed all sentient beings from reincarnation. Despite her effort, she realized that still many unhappy beings were yet to be saved. After struggling to comprehend the needs of so many, her head split into eleven pieces. Amitabha Buddha, seeing her problem, gave her eleven heads with which to hear the cries of the suffering. Upon hearing these cries and comprehending them, Avalokitesvara attempted to reach out to all those who needed aid, but found that her two arms shattered into pieces. Once more, Amitabha came to her aid and appointed her a thousand arms with which to aid the many. Many Himalayan versions of the tale include eight arms while more Chinese-specific versions give varying accounts of this number.

Of course, USA has its own site for the same purpose. Mexico has a travel alert issued on October 2008 related to violence and they also say our highways are unsafe. Do you think they are right?

Homework - January 30th
2. Write yourself an email for a future date about your "Ideal job" discussed during the first class.
3. Use present simple and adverbs of frequency to write a short description of your daily routine.
Example: I am the owner of a Mexican food restaurant in Dubai. I always wake up at 7 in the morning and drive to my office. When I get there, I ususally check the stock to see if there's anything I need to buy. The restaurant is never quiet in the morning but I sometimes have time to read the newspaper....etc.
4. Print it out and bring it to class on Wednesday. Don't forget to send yourself a copy in 8 or more years.
